The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has elected Professor Caesar Nongqunga as its new president, marking a pivotal leadership transition for the faith-based political party.
Professor Nongqunga, who holds a Doctor of Theology, a Doctor of Religious Education, and degrees in civil engineering and business administration, brings a wealth of academic and community development experience to the role. His track record includes initiating agricultural projects, funding education for disadvantaged learners, and creating employment opportunities in rural areas.
Founding president Vuyolwethu Zungula has transitioned to the role of parliamentary leader, a move described as a deliberate redeployment to leverage his legislative experience while allowing fresh leadership to broaden the party's appeal.
ATM spokesperson Ntshona stated that the appointment is part of the party's strategy to further embed its presence in communities through a service delivery-driven approach. With the 2026 Local Government Elections on the horizon, the new leadership is focused on growing ATM's support base across all nine provinces.
Under Professor Nongqunga's leadership, ATM aims to recalibrate its strategy and present itself as a credible, values-driven alternative in an increasingly competitive political landscape.
